As an evolution of the infamous Stuka dive bomber, the G-2 variant was modified specifically for anti-tank duties, equipped with twin Bordkanone BK 3,7 37mm cannons mounted under each wing. These powerful weapons made the Ju 87G-2 a deadly opponent against Soviet armored columns advancing across Eastern Europe. By 1944, as Germany’s situation became increasingly desperate, specialized aircraft like the Ju 87G-2 were essential in trying to delay overwhelming Soviet forces.
WNr. 494193 operated under the command of Stab./SG 2, a unit with strong ties to Germany’s most famous Stuka ace, Hans-Ulrich Rudel.
