The Sd.Kfz. 234/3 "Stummel" was a heavily armed reconnaissance vehicle developed to support German armored divisions with mobile firepower. Based on the eight-wheeled Sd.Kfz. 234 chassis, this variant was fitted with a short-barreled 75mm K51 L/24 gun, providing increased firepower for infantry support and urban combat. By February 1945, the 3rd Panzer Division was engaged in the brutal battles across Hungary, attempting to slow the Soviet Red Army’s advance. The division took part in Operation Konrad, a series of desperate counterattacks aimed at relieving the encircled German and Hungarian forces in Budapest. The Sd.Kfz. 234/3 played a crucial role in these operations, using its firepower to support German infantry and lighter vehicles in both rural and urban engagements.
